Declaring items purchased while living abroad, but shipped from US, upon return [closed]

Declaring items purchased while living abroad, but shipped from US, upon return [closed] - Set of white carton packages on marble surface

My wife and I have been living in Canada for 4 months on a work permit. We’ll be returning to the US soon, where we are both citizens. The general guidance is that anything we purchased abroad, we need to declare, which we will.

But, we have several items that we shipped from the US to Canada for our use while in Canada - a few articles of clothing, vitamins, that sort of thing. These items are made in the US, and shipped from the US. Do we need to declare these, since we are technically bringing them back into the country?

I assume for items made in the US and purchased in Canada, the usual rules apply (we need to declare theses)?

Thanks!

Do you have to declare purchases at customs?

Consider shipping your items back. If you're purchasing big-ticket items that you'd prefer not to schlep through the airport and onto the plane, you're legally allowed to ship back any luxury goods \u2014 but you're still required to declare them.

How can I avoid paying customs duty?

Tell the seller explicitly that the item is for personal use. Import duties typically apply to items imported for commercial use (business or resale)\u2014not personal or retail sales. If you're importing something for your own personal use or as a gift for someone else, you don't have to pay them.

How does declaring items at customs work?

You declare these items by filling out the U.S. customs form you will receive on the airplane or in the airport before you arrive at the customs area. The form, which also asks for basic information related to your trip, requires that you list each item in the above list and how much it cost.
