Why are flights departing Athens shorter than their returns at night? [closed] - Lighted Buildings Nighttime

My flight from Athens to Corfu lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes (left at 14:55). My return flight with the same airline (Ryanair) and same type of plane lasted about 45 minutes (left at 21:10).

Same thing with flight from Athens to Mytilini airport (50 minutes (morning) while return flight (night) was 35 minutes. Unfortunately I cannot remember flight details such as departure times and airline).

I generally see this happening in domestic flights in Greece.

Why does this happen?

The question is really not specific enough for us to answer with any precision. There are many factors that can affect the duration of a flight, and we don't even know exactly which parts of the flight are included in the timings you cite. I will assume that they are from your departure gate to your arrival gate.

The most likely explanation seems to be that when you leave Athens your plane is generally waiting behind a line of several other planes before it can take off, and when flying to Athens this does not happen. Another possible factor is that one of the runways at Athens is much closer to the terminal than the other. If your outbound flight used the farther runway, and your inbound flight did not, that would contribute to the difference in time.

Why do some airports close at night?

While they are essential to allow people to travel the world quickly, many who live near the airport may get fed up with the noise of constant arrivals and departures. While this is harder to avoid during the day, some airports have curfews during the night to give residents some quiet hours to sleep.

How long does it take to exit Athens Airport?

The metro line departs from Athens airport every 30 minutes (05′ and 35′), and costs 10€ one way or 18€ for a round-trip. The journey takes around 50 minutes, but there are no trains after 23:35. Although the Metro is one of the cheaper options, it isn't the most reliable ride.

Do flights take off at the exact time?

Most flights start boarding 30 - 50 minutes before scheduled departure, but the exact time depends on your destination and plane. Boarding ends 15 minutes before departure. If you're not on board, we may reassign your seat to another passenger. You will not be allowed to board once the doors close.

How long does it take to get through customs in Athens Greece?

Allow at least an hour (1 1/2 hr. is even better) if you have to clear Customs or if you arrive or depart from the satellite terminal.

Answer 2

Assuming it is the air-borne time, then, it could be because of the jet stream, plus Corfu to Athens is West to East.
