US visa has a different DOB from the passport

Hi I have had a us visa for a few years and have only recently travelled for work purposes and back again a few times for a couple of years now.
The problem is that I didn't start to use the visa until 5 years after it had been issued and have only just horrifyingly discovered that it has a different date of birth on it than in my passport.
I am truly worried about what the embassy are going to say and think when I tell them about it. Are they are going to be very angry and cancel my visa as I have used it to enter the US.
This has been a truly honest mistake and I know that I should of discovered this before now can someone out there please share any advice or experiences of similar circumstances? I'm so worried that I'm not going to be able to use the visa anymore and could end up in trouble.
