B2 visa for US - ESTA instead?

I'm a British citizen with a US spouse and dual national daughter. My husband is required to work in the US for a year and although we applied for a B2 visa for me to join my family out there, I can't get an interview at the Embassy in London until Mar 22! We need to leave in July. Has anyone tried to go to the US on an ESTA and then fly out and back in again after 90 days? Were you successful? I don't know how else to accompany my family out there when I can't even get an appointment for a visa interview!
