US travel - One passport Two valid ESTA

US travel - One passport Two valid ESTA - Crop unrecognizable person demonstrating British passport

traveling to US - I have a valid ESTA linked to my passport from a year and a half ago. About to travel in a months time again. When reading about the requirements for re-application, I saw that change of civil status is one of the requirements. Back in the day I lived with my partner - now we split and I live alone - so I decided it would be safer to re-apply (no changes in name). However Later I realized there is not even a field for civil status in the application, so now I have 2 valid ESTAs linked to one passport. Would this be a problem?

Your first ESTA is probably no longer valid. You can check at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov.

See for example When my ESTA expires how do I renew my application?

You do not need to wait until your ESTA expires to re-apply. You may do so at any time before, on or after the expiration date of your existing ESTA. Should you receive the message "A valid, approved application with more than 30 days remaining has been found for this passport. Submitting this application will require payment for this application and will then cancel the existing application." you will simply continue with the application to begin your new application. Your prior ESTA will be cancelled and replaced with your new application.

Even if your first ESTA was not cancelled because of some error in the system, it isn't your fault, and you should expect no problems to result from it.

Can you travel on the same ESTA twice?

There is no limit on the number of times you may enter the U.S. under either ESTA of a visa. However, if reentering the U.S. using ESTA soon after staying for nearly 90 days, you can expect to be questioned in detail by the immigration officer about the purpose of your visit.

Can I have an ESTA on 2 passports?

No. Each Visa Waiver Program traveler must have an approved travel authorization for the passport they plan to use before they travel to the United States. If a traveler obtains a new passport, they must submit a new travel authorization application in ESTA using the new passport.

Do I need a new ESTA for each trip to the US?

There is no need whatsoever to update your ESTA each time you go to the USA within the two year period it lasts for. It even says this on the application form. The address of your new accommodation will be collected in the Advance Passenger Information everyone has to supply to the airline before travel to the USA.

Can I leave the US with one passport and enter with another?

Most U.S. citizens, including dual nationals, must use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the United States. Dual nationals may also be required by the foreign country to use its passport to enter and leave that country. Use of the foreign passport does not endanger U.S. citizenship.
