ESTA - renewal of one passport only

ESTA - renewal of one passport only - Brown Leather Duffel Bag

I have a valid family ESTA but have changed my passport. Do I need to renew the whole family ESTA or just do a fresh one for me and use the existing one for the other family members?

Best Answer

There is no such thing as a "family ESTA". The US government provides the facility to submit a group of applications at the same time, but this can be used by anyone, and there is no obligation that you are related, nor that you actually travel together.

The validity of your ESTA has no bearing on the rest of your family. There is no need for them to reapply for an ESTA when you do.

Do I need to renew ESTA with new passport?

Applying for a new ESTA is required when your passport has been reissued or the content of your passport (i.e., your name, gender, or nationality) has changed.

Can I have an ESTA on 2 passports?

No. Each Visa Waiver Program traveler must have an approved travel authorization for the passport they plan to use before they travel to the United States. If a traveler obtains a new passport, they must submit a new travel authorization application in ESTA using the new passport.

How many times can you renew ESTA?

You may apply for a new ESTA before or after a previous one has expired. There are no restrictions on the number of times you can obtain a new ESTA authorization which is valid for two years from the date of issue. If you wanted to, you even could apply for a new ESTA again the day after obtaining the previous one.

Can I use the same ESTA multiple times?

The Authorization Approved screen displays your travel authorization expiration date. Your ESTA authorization is generally valid for multiple trips over a period of two years (starting the date that you are approved) or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
